get ready to be sued, mb tells chegubard over land approval claims

Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari (left) said Badrul Hisham Shaharin is trying to build a narrative that casts a bad light on the state government.

PETALING JAYA: Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari says he is ready to file a defamation lawsuit against blogger Badrul Hisham Shaharin for claiming there was corruption in the approval of land in the state.

Amirudin vehemently denied the allegations made by Badrul, also known as Chegubard, and said that he was in the midst of initiating legal proceedings against the blogger.

He said that property development company Landasan Lumayan Berjaya Sdn Bhd had taken proactive steps by initiating legal action against Badrul over a week ago.

“I see this as a tactic to divert public attention by making sensational but baseless accusations.

“He (Badrul) is trying to build a narrative that sheds a bad light on the Selangor government,” said Amirudin, according to Utusan Malaysia.

Last week, PAS mouthpiece Harakah reported that Badrul had lodged a police report at the Dang Wangi police station alleging corruption in the approval of land in the state.

Badrul had handed over to the police a letter claiming that the Selangor government had given 100.04 acres of land in Dengkil to Landasan Lumayan.

He said the company that obtained the land belongs to Berjaya Corporation Bhd, which is connected to businessman Vincent Tan.

Badrul also claimed a search of the company’s registration details found that Amirudin was on the company’s board of directors together with Tan.

He said Landasan Lumayan could not be considered a subsidiary of the state government given that the government only had a minority interest in the company.

Claiming a conflict of interest, Badrul questioned whether the menteri besar had declared his interest in the matter and whether he was absent when the state government meeting approved the 100.04 acres of land.

Amirudin’s political secretary Saifuddin Shafi, however, claimed that Badrul’s police report was part of a political game played ahead of the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

He also said the Selangor menteri besar’s office would cooperate fully with the authorities in their investigation.
