Mumbai Ahmedabad vande Bharat: The Vande Bharat Express, operating between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, will soon undergo trial runs at speeds of 160 kmph. If successful, this development is expected to reduce the travel time between the two cities by 45 minutes. The Indian Railways has granted approval for these trials on the designated route. Currently, the Vande Bharat trains on this route operate at a speed of 130 kmph, requiring approximately 6 hours and 30 minutes to complete the journey.
The Commission of Railway Safety, under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, has authorised confirmatory oscillograph car runs (COCR) in both directions for the 16-coach Vande Bharat train sets along the Mumbai Central-Vadodara-Ahmedabad route of the Western Railway.
To prioritise safety, the Commissioner of Railway Safety (Western Circle) has mandated that these trials take place during daylight hours and under favorable weather conditions. As an additional safety measure, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel will be deployed at level crossing gates to control pedestrian access and identify areas lacking proper barricades. Railway officials will also be stationed on platforms during the trial runs to ensure the safety of the public.
Meanwhile, Bullet train construction has commenced in Palghar and Thane districts of Maharashtra, forming part of the 508-km Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor, according to the National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL). The ongoing work is part of package-C3, spanning from Shilphata to Zaroli village on the Maharashtra-Gujarat border.
Geotechnical investigation for the entire 135 km stretch is nearing completion, with the initiation of tunnel construction and pier foundation work in the region. Casting yards are being developed for the production of girders. Package C-3 includes viaducts, bridges, and earth structures, covering a total of 135.45 km.
