Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said his party will support any effort to keep the unity government in power.
PETALING JAYA: The next general election (GE16) will be an election to defend the unity government’s stability and oneness in heart and mind, says Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Zahid said his party will support any effort to keep the unity administration in power in GE16, adding that this was for the sake of political stability, economic development and national prosperity.
According to Bernama, he said all 18 parties that make up the government bloc had the same goals and must continue fostering harmony to preserve the existing political stability.
“GE16 is an election to translate how political stability and the unity of hearts and minds among these 18 parties can be defended.
“In my opinion, the present 152 MPs that represent more than two-thirds (of MPs in the Dewan Rakyat) need to be defended and there are many ways to do so,” the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman was quoted as saying.
Zahid was commenting on PKR’s intention to retain its president Anwar Ibrahim as the prime minister in GE16.
The unity government comprises BN, Pakatan Harapan, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and Warisan.
