Game of Thrones Creators See New Show's Big Success Continue at Netflix
The creators of HBO’s Game of Thrones series appear to have struck gold again with their new series at Netflix. 3 Body Problem, created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss alongside Alexander Woo, has been maintaining very high viewership at its streaming home.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, 3 Body Problem has ranked in the No.1 spot among streaming titles for the second week in a row, according to Nielsen’s reporting numbers. Better yet is that its second week saw an increase in viewership, suggesting a continued growth in popularity. For the week of March 25-31, 3 Body Problem garnered 1.79 billion minutes of viewing, a rise of 30% compared to the previous week. That makes the series the No. 1 show overall on streaming, surpassing The Resident — available on both Hulu and Netflix — which had 1.48 billion minutes viewed.

3 Body Problem Creators Reveal ‘Very Funny’ Way Barack Obama Turned Down a Cameo
Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss wanted Barack Obama for their new show, 3 Body Problem, but he used humor to turn it down.
3 Body Problem is based on the original story, The Three-Body Problem, from author Liu Cixin. It also follows a previous Chinese adaptation released in 2023. Along with the showrunners from Game of Thrones, the cast also includes some stars from the HBO series, with John Bradley and Liam Cunningham both featured in significant roles. The show also stars Jovan Adepo, Rosalind Chao, Eiza Gonzalez, Jess Hong, Benedict Wong, and Marlo Kelly.
“There are three books,” Benioff previously said of how long the series could last, though a renewal for Season 2 hadn’t yet been officially announced. “The first season roughly follows the arc of the first book, and the second season would probably roughly follow the second book. The third book is massive. It’s twice as long, I think, as the other two books, so maybe that’s one season, maybe it’s two.”
