Three police officers from the same force criticised for its handling of the search for Nicola Bulley are to face disciplinary action over the case of an abused mother who killed herself.

Kiena Dawes, 23, damned Lancashire Police in a suicide note after vanishing.

The young mother left a note which begged: 'I hope my life saves another by police services acting faster.'

Tormented Kiena felt abandoned by Lancashire Police after alleged domestic violence by an ex. She was reported missing last July after leaving the note on her phone at a friend's home.

Kiena documented her horrific injuries with photos during a campaign of alleged violence. One shocking photo saw her head wrapped in a bandage and blood streaming down her face.

But she gave up hope and was reported missing by her family after leaving a suicide note on her phone.

Officers classed her as 'high risk' — the same as tragic Nicola — and began a search around her home town of Fleetwood.

But despite being handed the reg plate of her white BMW, they failed to find her in time and five hours later she took her own life after being struck by a train.

MailOnline can reveal one officer faces gross misconduct, which can result in the sack and two others misconduct.

The same force faced heavy criticism for the way it handled the Nicola Bulley case in nearby St Michael's-On-Wyre.

Ms Bulley, 45, drowned in the the River Wyre while walking her dog in St Michael's on Wyre, on January 27. Her body was found three weeks later, on February 19 after a huge search effort.

Dr James Adeley, senior coroner for Lancashire, ruled her death was accidental and that she did not have 'any desire' to take her own life.

Lancashire Police faced a storm of criticism after revealing in February that the missing mother of two had been experiencing 'significant issues with alcohol' brought on by her struggle with the menopause.

A report revealed Ms Bulley's family had asked for the reference to menopause to be made public after officers advised them it was a necessary step to clamp down on misinformed speculation.

However, it concludes that the shock revelation – made as the baffling case sparked global headlines and a string of conspiracy theories – was 'avoidable and unnecessary'.

In the case of Ms Dawes, the 23-year-old was reported missing after she left her nine-month-old daughter, Marnie, with a close friend and disappeared on July 22, last year.

Her brother Kynan told The Sun: 'They let down Kiena in life — and failed her in her last moments. She felt the police weren't doing anything to help her despite countless reports of domestic violence.

'Her attacker was constantly bailed and she ended up with nowhere to turn. She lost hope... When we found her note we knew it was a race against time.'

Loved ones called police and provided her car's make and model, as well as the registration plate.

Despite being a high-risk missing person, Kynan says Lancashire Police weren't quick enough to save her.

He said: 'They don't act quick enough. They never do. They weren't interested. That was the longest five hours of my life but poor Nicola Bulley's family had to wait three weeks. That's brutal.'

Her body was recovered from train tracks near the town of Garstang, Lancashire, as friends and family conducted a frantic search for her in nearby streets and alleyways.

In the wake of her death, Ms Dawes' family revealed she had been living in fear and claimed she repeatedly sought help from police in the weeks leading to her death.

They revealed shocking photos showing her looking bloodied and bruised following an alleged assault which happened after police had fitted panic alarms in her home.

Lancashire Police confirmed a 28-year-old man from Fleetwood had been arrested on suspicion of assaulting her on July 11, days before her suicide.

Despite the allegations of domestic abuse, the man was released on bail pending further enquiries and no charges were brought against him.

A spokesperson for the IOPC said: 'Our investigation into the contact between Lancashire Constabulary and Kiena Dawes, before her death is complete.

'We examined the police response to Miss Dawes being reported missing, as well as the police response to earlier reports that she had been the victim of assaults.

'Following the conclusion of our investigation in July 2023, we found one officer had a case to answer for gross misconduct and two officers had a case to answer for misconduct relating to actions or omissions connected to Ms Dawes's reports of domestic abuse.

'We found no case to answer for a fourth officer who was under investigation for potential misconduct.

'It is for Lancashire Constabulary to arrange police disciplinary hearings which will determine the outcome.

'Our thoughts remain with Miss Dawes' loved ones and all those affected by her death.'

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: 'A 30-year-old man from Fleetwood was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and coercive and controlling behaviour. He remains on conditional bail and the investigation into those matters remain ongoing.

'We remain in regular dialogue with Kiena's family and they continue to be supported by specially-trained officers.

'We referred ourselves to the IOPC (Independent Office for Police Conduct) in July 2022 in relation to contact we had with Kiena before her death. We note their investigation has now concluded and we note the findings .

'While our internal investigation remains ongoing, we cannot issue any further update on that until the conclusion of the aforementioned criminal investigation.'
