‘Furiosa’ first reviews: Critics call Anya Taylor film ‘myth-making at its finest’
The first reviews of Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor-Joy’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga are here. Critics have praised the movie and called it moving and gritty, with many hailing its world-building. The film has been helmed by George Miller and tells the ‘origin’ tale of one of its lead characters, Furiosa, earlier played by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road.Â
A section of The Wrap’s review read, “Furiosa engulfs you. At times it almost seems to exceed the canvas of the IMAX format it is THAT big â and yet at times has a deeply affecting intimacy. Echoing cinematic elements from the ’50s through the ’80s, it’s a rich, smart vision the cast revels in.”
Slashfilm’s review stated, “Furiosa is myth-making at its finest; a powerful, moving, gritty tale of revenge in the middle of a world gone wild.”
Meanwhile, Indiewire compared Fury Road with Furiosa and shared, “It operates in an extremely different gear than Fury Road (in ways that I suspect will frustrate some people), but also manages to make that movie even richer while carving its own legend in the wasteland.”
The film also stars Tom Burke, Nathan Jones and Josh Helman among others in pivotal roles. It will release in cinemas on May 23 in India.Â
