PETALING JAYA: Darsa Fried Chicken (DFC) has transferred its Facebook administrator to another department following public backlash over a remark about the Chinese community.
DFC CEO Faiz Zuhdi said the administrator in question lacked experience in social media management, MalaysiaGazette reported.
“Hence, we have taken action against the admin and transferred her to another department. Such actions (by the admin) are inconsistent with the values held by DFC,” he was quoted as saying at a press conference.
“We deeply regret this incident and take full responsibility for the mistake that occurred, and apologise to all who were affected or hurt.”
Faiz also voiced hope that Malaysians would accept DFC’s apology, adding that it does not discriminate against customers despite being fully owned by Bumiputeras.
“I hope we can put this issue to rest. We want to focus on providing the best service,” he said.
The local chain had drawn flak for referring to Malaysian Chinese as “Type C” in a Facebook comment.
The comment was made in response to a complaint by a customer about DFC’s prices compared to those of other chains like KFC.
“Type C is attempting to stir up negative sentiments towards DFC. We shouldn’t be easily swayed, especially without trying it yourself,” it said.
DFC issued an apology for the comment on its social media platforms but failed to quell the criticism.
Faiz today said that DFC had formed a team to ensure more effective communication and social media management.
“Each post and feedback must receive approval from the top management before being published, ensuring adherence to our ethical standards,” he said.
“We promise that incidents like this will not happen again in the future.”
He also expressed readiness to cooperate with the police if required, although no calls have been received thus far.
