Navarro returns to action for NorthPort

BUOYED by the return of William Navarro, NorthPort looks to kick off its PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup on a strong note when it faces a revitalized NLEX on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The 6-foot-5 Navarro has been practicing with the Batang Pier, according to coach Bonnie Tan, and is expected to contribute right away once given the chance in their 7:30 p.m. collision with the Road Warriors.

Navarro is coming off a torn ACL on his knee which he sustained in December 2022.

He has since undergone rehab and therapy and could bring the much-needed offense and defense.

The Batang Pier will again be led by vastly improved Arvin Tolentino, who led all locals in scoring in the Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup won by San Miguel.

NorthPort has a healthy mix of young guns and veterans that also include JM Calma, Allyn Bulanadi, Joshua Munzon, Paul Zamar, Jeff Chan and rookie Fran Yu.

The Road Warriors, on the other hand, will be unveiling new recruits Baser Amer, whom the team acquired from free agency, along with big man Ato Ular off a recent three-team trade.

Robert Bolick will be leading NLEX against his former team.

Meanwhile, the 4:30 p.m. curtain raiser features Terrafirma and Converge.

Juami Tiongson, the 2021 PBA Most Improved Player, will be leading the way for the Dyip, along with top rookie pick Stephen Holt, Isaac Go and Drei Cahilig.
