Former AFL player dead at 29
The AFL world is in shock following the death of former player Cam McCarthy at just 29. Chief football reporter Tom Morris joins us now from The Newsroom with more on this Tom, there’s going to be a special tribute tonight. Yes, there is a leisure It’s not a stretch to say that the entire AFL football world is in shock this afternoon after the death of Ken McCarthy, and we will get to what’s happening tonight. But this is Simon Garlic, the Fremantle CEO who’s speaking to the media right now outside Optus Stadium. Only you can personally myself for a short period of time. But what was abundantly a clear with anyone who had any interaction with Cam was his incredible personality. He was fun loving. He was noticeably kind. He had an infectious personality and he left a trail of of smiles and laughter wherever he went and with whoever he interacted with. So there will be a minute silence before the Dockers host the Swans tonight. All Fremantle players and staff will wear black arm bands and at the 23rd minute mark of the first quarter, fans will stand. And applaud McCarthy, who wore the number 23 in his Four Seasons at the club before retiring abruptly in 2020. Now tributes have flooded in today from former teammates such as Locky Schultz and Blake Akers, and also from former CEO of his at the genius Giants, Dave Matthews. Andrew Dillon spoke as well, but regardless, he’s going to be a much he’s a much loved person, Cam McCarthy, and what we’ve seen today is tributes flowing from all across the country. His death is being treated as non suspicion.
