A software defect might prevent one or both indicator lights from illuminating

Ford is recalling more than 242,000 Maverick trucks from the 2022 through 2024 model years because their rear position lights might not illuminate. Although the brake lights, turn signals, and headlights will still work, other drivers might not be able to see the vehicle if its position lights—also known as marker lights—are off at night.
The problem has to do with a software issue involving the Maverick’s Body Control Module (BCM), which controls various vehicle functions including lighting. To fix the problem, Ford dealerships will update the BCM software on the recalled vehicles free of charge. Some Mavericks have been recalled before for BCM software updates involving the turn signals and other electrical issues but will need another one to fix this problem.
In documents provided to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Ford says that it’s aware of 11 potential warranty claims but no injuries or crashes related to this recall.
Ford Maverick Recall Details
Vehicles recalled: Ford Maverick pickup trucks manufactured between Feb. 3, 2024, and March 21, 2024.
The problem: The BCM was calibrated for the current needed to illuminate a single-position lightbulb. But there are two position lights on these vehicles. As a result, the BCM will need a software update to ensure both position lights glow at the same time.
The fix: Ford dealerships will update the software free of charge.
How to contact the manufacturer: Owners may call Ford at 866-436-7332.
NHTSA campaign number: 24V293 Ford’s own number for this recall is 24S24.
Check to see whether your vehicle has an open recall. NHTSA’s website will tell you whether your vehicle has any open recalls that need to be addressed.
If you plug your car’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) into NHTSA’s website and a recall doesn’t appear, it means your vehicle doesn’t currently have one. Because automakers issue recalls often, and for many older vehicles, we recommend checking back regularly.
