The Philadelphia Flyers held their player exit interviews on Wednesday, where, in reflecting on their seasons, multiple players admitted to playing through injuries.

The Flyers dealt with a bit of an injury crisis in the beginning of 2024, losing players like Rasmus Ristolainen, Jamie Drysdale, Nick Seeler, and Travis Konecny in a short span of time. With their roster depleted, multiple players had to step up to pick up the slack and more minutes than they originally planned for, leading to putting some serious physical strain on these players that they’re only now publicly acknowledging.

One player that admitted to playing through some bad knocks was Travis Sanheim, who said he was “banged up” in March, which negatively affected his mobility, but he said he would not be needing any surgey and would just be taking a month off to rest and recover.

A more serious injury affected Sanheim’s defense partner Cam York, who acknowledged having a Grade II AC shoulder sprain, which he sustained in February. He sheepishly admitted that he “probably should’ve sat out a few games,” but went on to say, “The next game was the outdoor game, and I wasn’t missing that.”

Both York and Sanheim praised each other for fighting through what sounded like fairly serious injuries to continue being the Flyers’ top defensive pairing.

While Drysdale was able to return from hurting his shoulder this season (re-injuring the same shoulder that sidelined him for an even longer period back in 2022), he admitted when he first got traded to Philadelphia that he would be monitoring his health, and implied that he wasn’t at 100% full fitness when he arrived at January. When asked if he would have a procedure over the summer because of the persistent shoulder problems, he simply stated, “Potentially.”
