PETALING JAYA: Continuous heavy rain has caused flash floods in parts of Melaka while two relief centres have been opened in Selangor following similar floods in Sungai Buloh and Subang.

In Alor Gajah, the state disaster management secretariat said that 51 people from 13 families had been forced from their homes.

They were evacuated to the relief centre at Balai Raya Balik Balai which was opened at 9pm yesterday, Bernama reported.

The affected villages are Kampung Bukit Tambun, Kampung Bukit Balai, Kampung Padang Keladi, Kampung Taboh Naning, Pelan Lubok China, Kampung Sungai Jernih, Kampung Brisu and Taman Masjid Tanah Ria.

In Selangor, meanwhile, relief centres were opened at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Merbau Sempak and the Kuala Selangor district council hall Desa Coalfields, where 374 victims from 88 families are taking shelter.

Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar, Selangor assistant director (operations) of the fire and rescue department, said a control post was also opened at SK Merbau Sempak.

In Seremban, a relief centre was opened at the Permatang Pasir community hall in Port Dickson early today, according to Bernama.

The Negeri Sembilan disaster management committee of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force was quoted as saying that the centre was opened at 4.08am to accommodate 46 victims from two families.

“Several rivers recorded readings at alert and dangerous levels as of 7am today, namely Sungai Linggi and Sungai Triang in Jelebu,” it said in a statement.
