First Gen awards contract to Chinese firm

MANILA, Philippines — Lopez-led First Gen Corp. (FGEN) has awarded a contract to Chinese firm China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) to supply one liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo of approximately 130,000 cubic meters.

The LNG cargo will be delivered to First Gen Singapore Pte. Ltd (FGEN Singapore) next month and unloaded into the storage tanks of the BW Batangas floating storage regasification unit (FSRU).

It be used by FGEN’s existing gas-fired power plants located in First Gen clean energy complex (FGCEC).

“The FGEN LNG terminal will accelerate the ability to introduce LNG to the Philippines, to serve the natural gas requirements of existing and future gas-fired power plants of third parties and FGEN’s affiliates,” the company said.

It added that the company “believes the FGEN LNG terminal will play a critical role in ensuring the energy security of the Luzon grid and the Philippines.”

The company has entered into a five-year agreement for the charter of the BW Batangas. This will provide LNG storage and regasification services as part of the project.

Earlier in February, the energy firm sought a single cargo of LNG for its existing gas-fired power plants in the FGCEC by March.

The delivery window was scheduled from March 15 to 31.

FGEN awarded the contract for the initial shipment of the company’s LNG supply requirement to Shell Eastern Trading (Pte.) Ltd. in July 2023.
