Continúa la polémica por el informe de la Inspección del Ejército Nacional sobre el presunto robo de armas, municiones y hasta misiles que presentó el presidente Gustavo Petro en una rueda de prensa el pasado martes en la Casa de Nariño.

El ministro de Defensa, Iván Velásquez, ni el comandante de las Fuerzas Militares, general Helder Giraldo, conocían el reporte militar que leyó el mandatario, denunciando la pérdida con un estimativo de un millón de unidades.

Fue tal la alarma, que la Justicia Penal Militar abrió una investigación por hurto de armas y peculado culposo en el batallón de armas combinadas de Buenavista, ubicado en La Guajira y fronterizo con Venezuela.

Sin embargo, fuentes consultadas por Caracol Radio aseguran que las cifras no son las acertadas y continúan las investigaciones para determinar cuál es el monto real del armamento que se perdió en ese batallón y en el Fuerte Militar de Tolemaida.

El general Helder Giraldo reconoció este jueves que el presidente Petro fue mal informado y la Inspección del Comando de las Fuerzas Militares adelanta las revisiones en esas unidades para determinar la fuga de material de guerra.

“La investigación no ha precluido. Se mantiene, sigue y continúa con el propósito firme de establecer realmente cuál es la munición que probablemente se haya perdido. Lo más importante es determinar a los responsables”, indicó el general Giraldo, quien no se atrevió a decir la cifra exacta del material robado.

“De las cifras que leyó el presidente de la República, yo creo que ya ha habido aclaración en el sentido de dar a conocer, a través de los medios de comunicación, cuál es el aproximado de este material perdido. Estamos hablando de municiones, no de armamento”, enfatizó.

El alto oficial militar señaló que sí hay uniformados que venden este material de guerra a grupos armados organizados. “Hablamos de un número considerable de personal que integra la institución. Aquí no se trata de tapar la realidad. Sí tenemos ese delito de fuga de material”, manifestó.
