Fenland driver catches the eye on BriSCA F1 stock car debut at King’s Lynn

Fenland drivers have a new star in the making to cheer in the BriSCA F1 stock cars following Bradley Blyth’s debut in the formula on Saturday.

Third-generation racer Blyth is not a novice to stock car racing having dabbled in both BriSCA F2 stock cars and Superstox in the past, but his F1 performances were well-received.

Blyth qualified for the final with an eighth-place finish in his heat from the back of the grid as a novice.

He elected to start with the whites at the front for the rest of the meeting.

In the final, he was spun out on the first lap and re-entered the race in 21st place but made steady progress up the field to finish 11th.

The final race of the night – the Grand National – saw Blyth at his best.

He made no mistake when the green fell in this one and surged into the lead but was unlucky with several yellow flags which bunched the field up right behind him.

He made no mistakes on the restart but the last restart had multi-champion Frankie Wainman Jnr behind him who eased past a few laps later but not before Blyth had done his best to retake the lead.

Bradley unfortunately retired a few laps later with mechanical woes. Brad also set the tenth fastest lap on the night with many experienced names behind him.

Local fans can’t wait for Brad’s next appearance in an F1 Stock Car which will be on April 6 at King’s Lynn.

Tommy Parrin also had a promising night in the 2L stock cars.

He had a fifth-place finish in the white and yellows which was bettered with a runner-up finish in the second heat.

A stoppage with one lap to go saw the grid bunched up for the second heat with Parrin in second spot.

He took the lead going down the back straight for the final time but was spun out when the inevitable push came into the final bend.

Disaster struck in the final when he was spun out in the early stages before a compression arm snapped which saw him hit the fence hard.

Despite the setback, Parrin was on the pace and battling with the frontrunners

The banger racing season starts at Lynn this Saturday (5pm) when the 2L bangers, 1600cc bangers, 1300cc stock cars and junior bangers are in action.
