MANILA, Philippines: The two-day respite before Game 6 is a timely tonic for seven-time PBA Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo who has been dealing with a hurting left calf in the ongoing Commissioner’s Cup finals.
The 6-foot-10 star slotman though managed to play through pain, contributing 18 points and grabbing 15 rebounds as the San Miguel Beermen subdued the Magnolia Hotshots, 108-98 on Sunday to regain the driver’s seat, 3-2, and moving within a win from capturing the franchise’s 29th league championship.
San Miguel team physiotherapist Edward Bacason said Fajardo will just have to stay out of practice for the next two days and work on his left calf through therapy to ensure the superstar center will be ready by Wednesday.
The 33-year-old Fajardo has been a tower of strength for the Beermen as he averages 16.5 points and 16.5 rebounds.
The nine-time Best Player will be gunning for his 10th PBA championship come Wednesday as San Miguel goes for the jugular against Magnolia in Game 6 at the Araneta Coliseum.
