Are we trying to take a comprehensive approach? And I see a lot of Atlanta, Canada baked into this plan. There’s been several Federal Housing announcements made across the Maritimes over the past few months, a preview of the federal government’s plan to solve the housing crisis, expanded tax incentives for home building, protections for renters and more housing builds on public lands. Only parts of the strategy all working towards the goal of having no Canadian pay more than 30% of their income towards their housing. We’re creating incentives that are going to make it easier. For builders to get building, not just for big institutional builders. But also for individual homeowners who want to add another home on the property that they may already live on. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau calling the strategy the most comprehensive and ambitious housing plan ever seen in Canada. Housing Minister Sean Fraser says it has Atlantic Canada’s fingerprints all over it. But political analyst Lori Turnbull says there’s a lot of ifs around provincial cooperation. And that doesn’t mean the plan is is not good. It just means that there are a bunch of things that have to happen in order for the plan to be able to be implemented. And I think that’s why they put so much energy into the pre budget announcements, because they’re trying to build political support for their ideas. We want to put money on the table to incentivize provinces to actually exercise their jurisdiction to adopt more permissible rules. Turnbull says the housing strategy represents a significant shift in the federal government’s thinking about their responsibility around housing. So it wasn’t that long ago that the Prime Minister said we this isn’t a federal jurisdiction sort of thing, right? And so obviously. They’ve they’ve shifted in that and or they’ve shifted their perspective they’ve they’ve shifted what their plan is on that and now they’re they’re embracing a federal role in housing. However. There’s a little bit of you need to read the fine print on this one. Implementing much of this housing plan will take time, and many Canadians are feeling the financial pressures of the housing crisis. Megan King, Global News, Halifax.
