Fancy a Grand Designs-style project? 52ft high water tower set to be converted into quirky five-storey home with a roof terrace goes on sale for £45,000

A 52ft high water tower which is set to be converted into a five-storey home with a roof terrace and ground-level parking goes on sale next month.

Home buyers could take on their own Grand Designs-style project when the disused tower, located in Bishops Green, Hampshire, goes under the hammer for £45,000.

It comes with an existing consent to be redeveloped into a three bedroom home and separate certificate that the plans have been legally implemented.

The tower currently looks very industrial, with barbed wire and overgrown weeds around the bottom to prevent trespassers from climbing the structure. However, CGI images have shown the site’s potential new quirky look, with the existing tank set to be converted into the fourth floor kitchen/living area.

Above that will be a roof terrace, which would offer far-reaching views across the village on the Hampshire/Berkshire border.

The existing water tower is located within the southern end of the village, situated within the housing estate on Eagle Road.

The site comprises a 26 by 26ft plot of land, containing the water tower that once supplied local residents prior to main water supply reaching the estate. The structure has consent for conversion into a house after Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council gave the green light to the plans back in 2014.

The proposed accommodation includes ground-level parking and entrance hallway to the ground floor.

Bedrooms are located on the the first and second floors, while the third floor could be used as either a third bedroom or living room.

The fourth floor will be a conversion of the existing water tank and will comprise a kitchen/living area with a roof terrace above.

The tower is set to be auctioned by Savills on April 16.

The company’s auctioneer Steven Cane said: ‘Every now and again we get a water tower come to auction and historically there’s been a good level of demand for these quirky lots.

‘Located near the market town of Newbury, this particular water tower is being offered with existing planning permission to be transformed into a three-bedroom house with two undercroft parking spaces and roof terrace – presenting an excellent opportunity for investors or individuals seeking a unique project.

‘I’d expect there to be a good level of interest on the day with interest likely to come from developers, investors or an end user looking to create a distinctive residence.’
