Ex-Detroit Lions TE signs pro basketball contract
Former Detroit Lions tight end Devin Funchess is set to try his hand at professional basketball in Colombia.
Funchess has signed a deal to play with the Caribbean Storm of the Basketball League of Colombia, according to Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson.
“Blessed by the man from above for the opportunity,” Funchess told Robinson. “I Appreciate all those involved with my journey from the Philippines to Australia to now here in Colombia! Can’t wait to get started and get on the right track to going 1-0 on May 1st!”
Originally a second-round pick of the Carolina Panthers in 2015, Funchess signed with the Lions in 2022 as a tight end but didn’t last long. A little over two months after arriving in Detroit in June, he was released.
Prior to his stint in Detroit, Funchess spent four seasons with the Panthers and one with the Indianapolis Colts, and he had a cup of coffee with the Green Bay Packers.
