The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match no. 26 – between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC) – saw a bizarre incident unfolding at the Ekana Stadium. Visiting captain Rishabh Pant got involved in an argument with on-field umpire Rohan Pandit over a DRS call, ultimately losing it pretty early in the innings.

It was the fourth over when veteran pacer Ishant Sharma bowled a wide ball down the leg side from around the wicket. LSG batter Devdutt Padikkal looked to clipped it towards square leg but was beaten. Umpire Pandit ruled it a wide delivery but then it seemed like Pant calling for a DRS from behind the stumps. As the gesture of the DC skipper was caught on camera, the match official went upstairs for the referral and the visitors ended up losing one of their two reviews.

The drama unfolded before the next delivery as there was a long chat between Pant and the umpire with the wicketkeeper indicating that he perhaps didn’t review it. However, the TV replays showed that Pant did make the T sign for review, although he wasn’t looking at the umpire.

The discussion lasted for almost five minutes before the game resumed at the Ekana Stadium. Meanwhile, the fans on social media came up with hilarious reactions to the entire incident. Here’s how they reacted.

Earlier, LSG won the toss and elected to bat first DC. Home captain KL Rahul confirmed that Mayank Yadav has been benched and replaced by Arshad Khan.

“We want to start fresh, looks like a good wicket. I don’t think dew is going to play a part. It has made a huge difference. You can bowl well, bat well, express yourselves, the big boundaries, the bowlers enjoy playing here. The batters are enjoying batting here. The three games we have played here have been packed. Arshad Khan comes in for Mayank Yadav,” said Rahul at the toss.

DC, on the other hand, received a massive boost as the likes of Kuldeep Yadav and Mukesh Kumar returned to the missing after recovering from injuries.

“We would have batted first as well. A few of our players got injured, so need to find the right playing XI. We have two changes. Mukesh and Kuldeep are back. They were injured, looking forward to seeing them back on the field,” said Pant at the toss.
