Paulina Porizkova announced that she underwent ‘long overdue’ bilateral hip replacement surgery on Thursday after wearing out ‘all’ her cartilage due to congenital hip dysplasia.
‘The three doctors I’ve visited all recoiled when they saw my X-rays,’ the Czech-born 58-year-old – who boasts 1.1M Instagram followers – wrote.
‘”Well, it’s bone on bone!” they exclaimed. “At least we know you’re good with pain tolerance!” It’s so bad, in fact, that doing one hip at the time is pointless. It would actually impede the healing and mobility.’
According to the Mayo Clinic, ‘hip dysplasia is the medical term for a hip socket that doesn’t fully cover the ball portion of the upper thighbone, which allows the hip joint to become partially or completely dislocated.’
Paulina (born Pavlína Pořízková) was just grateful it was ‘a fixable problem’ and she found a doctor she ‘really trusts, one who specializes in anterior hip replacements.’

Porizkova’s post received supportive comments from her celeb pals Brooke Shields, Angie Harmon, Helena Christensen, Nigel Barker, Ali Wentworth, Ricki Lake, and Marla Maples.
Luckily, the Model CoOp-repped beauty also has plenty of support from friends and family ‘volunteering to come and bring me soup’ as well as ‘my love’ Jeff Greenstein ‘at my side.’
Paulina and the 60-year-old photographer originally connected on a dating app January, 3 2023 – and the inseparable couple will officially celebrate their first anniversary on February 3.
Before going under the knife, Porizkova and Jeff enjoyed ‘one last vacation with [her] old hips’ on the Caribbean isle of Saint Barthélemy, which was ‘glorious and sometimes bittersweet.’
The silver-haired model-writer first discovered St. Barts when she was 16 in 1981 during a work trip – most likely for Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue which she covered numerous times.
Paulina went on to marry her late husband – The Cars frontman Ric Ocasek – in St. Barts in 1989 and they took annual vacations there with their two sons Oliver and Jonathan in tow.
The six-time Grammy nominee died, age 75, from natural causes in 2019 – two years after legally separating from Porizkova and disinheriting her in his will after 27 years of marriage.
‘This is the first time back since,’ the pro-aging activist wrote on Wednesday.

‘So many memories. And now, @sjeffgreenstein and I have added new ones…Much has changed. Both for the island and me. But the essence is the same. In both of us, I hope.’
Ocasek (born Otcasek) was still married to his second wife Suzanne when he cast the then 19-year-old Paulina in his Drive music video back in 1984.
