From an analytics perspective, this game was not even close. At even strength, Vancouver held a 32-13 scoring chances advantage while winning the high-danger chances battle 15-6. Ultimately though, consistently missing the net, coupled with a strong performance by Connor Ingram, led to a frustrating overtime loss for the Canucks.

The majority of shots came from low-danger areas, with Arturs Silovs only facing three high-danger shots all game. While the Canucks ultimately lost this game, the way they played in their own zone was arguably the most prominent positive, as they gave next to nothing at even strength and on the penalty kill.

Once again, Dakota Joshua, J.T. Miller, and Conor Garland were Vancouver’s top trio of the night. In 9:39 together, they had an xGF% of 82.50 while holding a 5-0 high-danger scoring chances advantage. Joshua, Miller, and Garland also combined for eight even-strength shots while recording seven even-strength individual high-danger scoring chances. Since Joshua’s return to the lineup, this has been the Canucks best trio, and it looks as though they will play a prominent role come playoff time.

Lastly, Quinn Hughes was once again the best player on the ice. Hughes played over 22 minutes at even strength, with Vancouver holding a 20-5 scoring chances advantage when he was on the ice. The Canucks captain also became the third defenceman in NHL history to record 9+ games of 3+ assists while becoming the tenth player in franchise history to record 90 points in a season. These types of performances show why he deserves the Norris Trophy this season and how he has become one of the greatest players in franchise history despite only playing 362 games.
