Alex Pereira explains his next goal after knocking out Jamahal Hill and how Dana White responded to it
Alex Pereira couldn’t have been more dominant in defending his light heavyweight championship by knocking out Jamahal Hill at UFC 300 on Saturday night.
After doing so, a victorious Pereira told Joe Rogan inside the Octagon about the goal he’d like to accomplish next.
“I know there needs to be a lot of promotion behind a fight but I want to have a fight at heavyweight,” Pereira said through a translator.
Since November 2022, the Brazilian warrior has captured two titles in two different weight classes: middleweight and light heavyweight, as he’s trying make heavyweight a third.
Dana White was asked about Pereira’s lofty ambitions during the UFC 300 post-event press conference.
“When you think about him moving up to heavyweight, you got [Jon] Jones, you got [Tom] Aspinall and the list goes on and on in that heavyweight division,” White told reporters. “The heavyweight division is nasty. I don’t know if that’s the right move for him.
“He looked damn good tonight in the division he’s in, so I think he might want to stick around there for a minute. But I don’t know. These are all things that we’ll talk about for the next 15 Tuesdays. We’ll get it figured out.”
