Elections 2024: Final list of EVERY voting station in South Africa

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has published the list of addresses of the voting stations that will be used in the 2024 national and provincial elections.

In total, there will be 23 292 voting stations in South Africa’s nine province.

IEC Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sy Mamabolo, in addressing the media on Tuesday, confirmed that KwaZulu-Natal will have the highest number of voting stations (4 974), followed by the Eastern Cape (4 868) and Limpopo (3 216).

All voting stations are now contracted with lease agreements concluded with landlords or owners.

Voters are reminded that they may only vote at a voting station at which they are registered.

Voters who will inevitably be away from their voting districts on election day, Wednesday, 29 May 2024, may give a Section 24A notice of their intention to vote at another identified voting station by no later than Friday, 17 May 2024.

Three ballot papers

Meanwhile, as reported by The South African website, voters will need to place their all-important ‘X’ on three different ballot papers.

The three ballot papers a voter will get on voting day are the following:

  • National Compensatory ballot
  • National Regional ballot
  • Provincial Legislature ballot

The IEC confirmed that it’s “over 95% ready” for election day and that it is in the process of distributing 1 873 tonnes of material between its different warehousing and storage facilities across the country.

According to the official IEC website, a record number of over 27.79 million voters are eligible to do so this year.

It’s the highest total since the dawn of democracy in the country.

In 2024, the provincial breakdown of the registered voters indicates that Gauteng remains as the biggest voting block, followed by KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape.

There has also been a marked increase in the rate of representation by persons in the age group 18-39 years.

This age band accounts for 42% – or 11.7 million – voters on the voters’ roll.

Interestingly, the trend of there being more females on the voters’ roll continues.

Of the 27.79 million voters, 15 million are females. This represents over 55%.
