singer gets golden buzzer on britain’s got talent

The winner of Britain’s Got Talent will secure a £250,000 cash prize and a spot on the bill of the Royal Variety Performance

A Kent singer has earned a coveted “golden buzzer” on Britain’s Got Talent.

Sydnie Christmas faced an uphill battle after judge Simon Cowell revealed he was not a fan of her song choice – Tomorrow from the musical Annie.

But the 28-year-old received a standing ovation from all four judges during the first episode of the ITV’s show 17th series.

Fellow judge Amanda Holden said it was the “best version” of the song she had ever heard, before awarding a golden buzzer.

‘Amazing’

Ms Christmas, who fell to her knees in celebration, revealed she had moved from Kent to London and currently works at a gym, but her dream was to perform on the West End.

Cowell said the reaction from the audience was “rare”.

“Everyone’s aware it’s tough to get that break for something which you really love. You so deserve what you just got. Your control was amazing,” he said.

“I used to hate that song and now I absolutely love it.”

Holden added: “What struck me so much about you is just how naturally funny, how warm, how brilliant your presence was the minute you walked on the stage.

“How you were entertaining everyone but then you brought us the most heartfelt, beautiful version of that song.”

The winner of the series will secure a £250,000 cash prize and a spot on the bill of the Royal Variety Performance.
