No importa si Nemo gana el Festival de la Canción de Eurovisión este fin de semana —lo que lo convertiría en el/la primer concursante no binario en llevarse a casa el micrófono de cristal_, el cantante ya es un éxito.

Representando a Suiza con la canción “The Code”, Nemo dice que ahora hay más comprensión y conciencia en su país sobre ser no binario y lo que significa.

“La gente empieza a comprender más y creo que comprender significa mucho para mí. Y simplemente poder representar a esta comunidad en Eurovisión es increíble. Y estoy muy contento de no ser ni siquiera el único este año. Ya sabes, eso es aún mejor porque simplemente demuestra que es necesario”.

Entre los concursantes que llegaron a la próxima ronda semifinal del jueves se encuentra el hada gótica irlandesa Bambie Thug, que también es no binaria y usa los pronombres ellos/ellas.

La canción “The Code” de Nemo trata acerca de luchar por encontrar su lugar y descubrirlo “en algún lugar entre los ceros y los unos” de un sistema binario. Es uno de los favoritos para ganar Eurovisión, que se celebra esta semana en Malmö, Suecia.

“Saber que les gusta una canción en la que soy incondicionalmente yo mismo, y hablo sobre el viaje de encontrarme a mí mismo y ser no binario y saber que eso los toca, es realmente hermoso”, dijo Nemo.

En Malmö, Nemo ha estado organizando algunas sesiones en habitaciones de hotel con otros artistas y le gustaría que eso conduzca a futuras colaboraciones musicales.

La desventaja del hotel es el potente aire acondicionado, lo cual no es nada bueno para un artista que alcanza notas altas de ópera y también rapea a toda velocidad.

Nemo no solo canta y rapea con un enorme abrigo peludo rosa, lo hace en una plataforma gigante giratoria mientras realiza movimientos al estilo Matrix que desafían la gravedad.

“De hecho, esa es una de mis partes favoritas. Es muy divertido de hacer”, dijo. “La gente me pregunta: ¿tienes imanes en tus zapatos? Yo les respondo que no, pero debería”.

Suiza es uno de los 37 países que compiten en Eurovisión esta semana después de que Loreen ganó el concurso el año pasado.

Otros favoritos incluyen el estridente “Rim Tim Tagi Dim” de Baby Lasagna en representación de Croacia, el dúo ucraniano alyona alyona y Jerry Heil con la melódica “Teresa & Maria” y el pop pegadizo “La Noia” de la italiana Angelina Mango.
