Education system ‘broke’: LNP MP in favour of paid work placements
LNP MP Keith Pitt says the education system is “broke” and in “need of fixing” as the Albanese government overhauls the student debt scheme.
Mr Pitt told Sky News Australia he agrees with Education Minister’s Jason Clare’s view on paid practical work placements.
A new Commonwealth payment for an estimated 68,000 students studying nursing, teaching and social work is currently being established.
“Jason Clare is on to something when it comes to pracs,” Mr Pitt said.
“Social work, for example you do a 17 week prac, 9-5 five days a week, all of that for free, on top of that you get a HECS bill that subject for $9,000.

“I don’t think social work pays all that extraordinarily well.
“I think the systems broken and it does need to be reviewed and fixed.”
