El presidente de Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, anunció la suspensión de la jornada laboral en todo el país para los días jueves 18 y viernes 19 de abril de 2024, como parte de las medidas tomadas ante la crisis energética que enfrenta el país,  advirtiendo que la decisión no solo responde “a circunstancias ambientales” sino a “actos inauditos de corrupción y negligencia.

Ambos días serán recuperados en el sector público mediante una hora adicional en los días laborables siguientes, mientras que en el sector privado la forma de recuperación será acordada de mutuo acuerdo entre empleadores y trabajadores.

Además de esta medida, el gobierno ha implementado otras acciones para abordar la crisis, una de ellas, solventará el 50 % de la factura eléctrica del mes de abril para los hogares ecuatorianos. Los sectores estratégicos del Gobierno estarán operativos al 100 %, enfocados en resolver la crisis energética.

Durante estos días se realizarán mantenimientos en las plantas eléctricas, lo que implicará racionamientos energéticos en horarios específicos, los cuales serán comunicados este miércoles a las 17:00 a través del sitio web del Ministerio de Energía y Minas.

Las autoridades afirmaron compromiso de combatir la corrupción, especialmente en el sector energético. Una investigación preliminar llevada a cabo por la nueva administración del Ministerio de Energía y Minas reveló indicios de ocultamiento de información crucial por parte de funcionarios de alto nivel, incluyendo la exministra Andrea Arrobo, quien fue nombrada por el propio Noboa.

Según el comunicado oficial, estas investigaciones señalan que se suprimieron advertencias al Comité de Crisis Energética, lo que sugiere actos de corrupción y negligencia. El déficit energético estimado para abril se sitúa entre 22 y 27 GWh por día. El Gobierno presentó una denuncia ante la Fiscalía contra 22 individuos por paralización del servicio público, acusándolos de sabotaje y afectación al desarrollo del país.
