A long weekend and a pub should be the perfect pair, but the taps won’t be flowing at the British hotel in Port Adelaide this Easter. Yeah, it was a tough decision, but probably easy in the end that that’s, that’s what we have to do for a place with no pokies. It’s it’s it’s harder and we really need to be really busy to to to make it a successful weekend. The risk not worth the additional cost. Easter Sunday comes with public holiday penalty rates for the first time this year. Hotels, pubs and other hospitality venues have to make the hard decision of either closing entirely. Opening for fewer hours or charging surcharges to their customers. I’ll go on the parade in Norwood, adopting the latter 2 choices, opening each day for just a few hours, and passing on the costs. We do have to charge an 18% surcharge this weekend, but even with that surcharge, we still just break even. It won’t cover all the overhead costs. Most customers I’ve chatted to along the parade today are happy to cop a surcharge, many agreeing it’s the price to pay for service on what should be a day off. You know, I’m prepared to. Pay extra so that workers are actually paid what they’re worth and what they deserve on those days. For our economy to grow as a country, we need our small businesses to survive through the hardship. It’s only a few days a year, so it’s no big deal, really. The premier echoing their stance and defending workers rights, they’re giving up precious family time and I’m very comfortable with them getting a high rate of pay for it. Walter Fulvio 9 News.
