A PWHL battle between Toronto and Montreal played out before the biggest crowd in history for a women’s hockey game on Friday night.
A sellout crowd of 19,285 attended the game at Scotiabank Arena, home of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The previous record of 18,013 was set at a world championship game between Canada and Finland in Ottawa in 2013.
The Toronto PWHL team has started the league’s inaugural year playing its home games at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, which seats about 2,600.
Last month, the PWHL announced the Battle on Bay Street would move to Scotiabank Arena and tickets sold out on the first day of the public sale.
