Dr Wee questions DAP's logic over sliding ringgit

KUALA LUMPUR: Calling DAP consistently inconsistent, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic) questioned DAP’s logic behind Bank Negara being the only one responsible for the depreciation of the ringgit.

The MCA president said when DAP was the Opposition, it would blame the ruling government when the ringgit was depreciating.

“Now that it is the ruling government, they can no longer blame Barisan Nasional so the top management of Bank Negara has become its scapegoat instead.

“When something good happens, the former finance minister (Lim Guan Eng) and his sister the current Deputy Finance Minister (Lim Hui Ying) will take the credit.

“When the ringgit is depreciating, the governor of Bank Negara will have to give an explanation.

“That is certainly the joke of the century!” Dr Wee exclaimed in a Facebook post on Wednesday (April 17).

Dr Wee asked why it was different back then compared to now.

“Only the Bank Negara governor should be responsible for the fall in the value of the ringgit?

“Isn’t it the minister or deputy minister of Finance?” he asked.

He shared news snippets from a few years ago when Guan Eng was questioning the then government of the day about the ringgit falling to RM4.70.

The ringgit slid to 4.7800 against the dollar on Monday (April 15), nearing its low of 4.8053 on Feb 21, which was the weakest since the local currency’s record low of 4.8850 in 1997 following the fallout from the Asian financial crisis.
