Alia Bhatt shaken over killing of juvenile elephant in Poacher awareness video, says it gave her chills: ‘Murder is murder’

Days after Alia Bhatt joined Prime Video’s crime drama miniseries Poacher as an executive producer, the makers have unveiled an awareness video based on the upcoming show, featuring the National Award-winning actor offering glimpses of Poacher’s world and its narrative.

The 120-second video, set in a forest, begins by showing a group of forest officers combing the area as Alia Bhatt enters the frame. Passing through light equipment set up for visibility in the wilderness, a visibly shaken Alia appears. “Ashok’s murder was reported at 9 this morning,” her thoughts become audible. “The third one this month. His body was lifeless… mutilated… Ashok was just 10 years old. He never saw his killers.”

As a female officer crosses Alia to collect evidence, we hear, “They might think they will get away with it. But they won’t. Just because Ashok was not one of us, that doesn’t make this crime any less significant.”

Accompanied by an eerie background music, she asserts, “Because murder is murder,” as the camera pans to the ground, where dried leaves form the outline of an elephant’s corpse with blood stains nearby.

Sharing the teaser on Instagram, Alia wrote, “I spent less than a day in the jungle to shoot this awareness video, but it still gave me chills. Murder is Murder… and I can’t wait for you to see the full story through the eyes of Richie Mehta and our stellar cast.”

Created and directed by Emmy Award-winning show Delhi Crime’s maker Richie Mehta, Poacher stars Nimisha Sajayan, Roshan Mathew, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Kani Kusruti, Ranjitha Menon, and Maala Parvathi in key roles. The series will be released on Amazon Prime Video on February 23, 2024.
