DMW: Remains of 3 OFWs who died in UAE flood to be repatriated

MANILA, Philippines —  The remains of the three overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who died during the recent flooding in the United Arab Emirates will be repatriated, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said.

According to the DMW, its Migrant Workers Offices (MWO) in Dubai and Abu Dhabi are already working with local authorities to bring their remains back to the Philippines.

“MWO-Dubai and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Office, in particular, met with the next of kin of the three OFWs. They explained the procedures needed to facilitate the repatriation of their remains back to the Philippines,” the department said in a statement on Friday evening.

Two Filipinas died from suffocation inside their vehicle at the height of the flooding last Wednesday.

Meanwhile, one male OFW passed away from injuries he sustained when his vehicle fell into a sinkhole on the same day.

The DMW said that two more OFWs, both male, also suffered injuries during the flood.

“They are recuperating from their injuries, as reported by MWO-Dubai officers who were able to visit them in their hospital rooms,” it added.

Additionally, the DMW, along with OWWA personnel, said it was helping stranded Filipinos at the Dubai International Airport whose flights got delayed or changed because of heavy rains and bad weather.
