The risks of Moscow’s attempts to overthrow the government in Chisinau have not disappeared. Russia is expected to try to destabilize the situation in Moldova again in the spring, using the regime in Transnistria, according to Moldovan President Maia Sandu.

“We know that this spring Russia will resume its actions to try to destabilize the situation,” she says.

Sandu notes that during this period, Russia has been trying to destabilize order and power in Chisinau, each time trying to use the regime in the Transnistrian region.

“We are aware of these risks and we are taking all actions to prevent these destabilizations. We talk to them and we communicate to the citizens about these risks, as we did last year when Russia intended to overthrow the government,” the Moldovan president adds, emphasizing that the government “still has work to do, still has vulnerabilities.”

Sandu emphasizes that Moldova is counting on the support of Romania and the international community.

Situation in Moldova

Earlier, the pro-Russian Shor party in Moldova organized protests to overthrow the current government and demanded the impeachment of President Maia Sandu. In June 2023, the Constitutional Court of Moldova banned Shor’s activities.

Earlier, Moldovan President Maia Sandu said that Russia was bribing voters in the local elections held in November.

In addition, Chisinau is trying to fight Russian propaganda. In October 2023, Moldova blocked access to 22 Russian propaganda TV channels.
