Dave Grohl took some time off Foo Fighters’ most recent tour to do some good.

While the legendary rock group — comprised of lead vocalist/guitarist/songwrier Grohl, bass guitarist Nate Mendel, lead guitarist Chris Shiflett and rhythm guitarist Pat Smear, organist Rami Jaffee, and drummer Josh Freese — was on tour in Australia, the “Times Like These” singer, 54, took time to volunteer in Melbourne, per Daily Mail.

After Foo Fighters performed at Melbourne’s AAMI Park on Monday and Wednesday, Grohl stopped by The Big Umbrella — a street kitchen charity for the homeless — to volunteer on Friday.

According to the publication, Grohl was serving food for several hours at Melbourne’s Federation Square location.

The Big Umbrella, per its official website, was founded in 2010 to help the homeless and “food insecure.”

It’s now recognized as an emergency food relief organization “supporting communities affected by wildfires, floods, earthquakes, storms and pandemics,” the website said.

The Big Umbrella shared a series of images on Instagram featuring Grohl working in the kitchen over a chafing dish full of different types of meat with other volunteers and interacting with those in need and called him “one of the nicest guys on the planet.”

“Our friends on the street were treated to an epic american style bbq with all the trimmings prepared by rock legend Dave Grohl of the @foofighters. The vibe was at an all time high at Fed Square for this very special one off lunch feast,” the caption read. “It will be a day ‘our friends on the streets’ will never forget as they brushed up against a rock legend and one of the nicest guys on the planet who genuinely cares for people in need. No words can fully capture the impact of this positive experience.”

It continued: Dave and his mates including Jules and Nathan from @nats_what_i_reckon ,Nick from @carolinasmokeaustralia and our wonderful neighbours Andrew and Pam from @TheQueClub spent 18 hours preparing and lovingly smoking 60kgs of pork ribs, pork butt and beef brisket before delivering it to #mgskitchen the next morning.”

The caption also described the menu, which featured “coleslaw, potato salad, corn bread, pancakes and apple crumble to accompany the bbq.”

“Word had spread far in the community who had no idea what special super star guests would be there on the day to serve them. The invitation to enjoy an American BBQ was enough of a draw card for them,” the Instagram post read.

It concluded: “Dave, Nick and Nat served tirelessly in the sweltering heat for over 2 hours feeding 430 meals, posing for photos, signing whatever people found from cardboard plates and t-shirts whilst also being so humble What a guy! What a day!”

In February, the “Everlong” musician also lent kitchen skills to those in need for Hope the Mission by barbecuing for 24 hours to feed homeless people in Los Angeles. A representative at the nonprofit confirmed to PEOPLE that the former Nirvana drummer and some friends cooked over 500 meals for three shelters in L.A.

The Foo Fighters bandleader arrived at the time with a massive smoker trailer, which they used to make smoked brisket, ribs, pork butts and sides like coleslaw and barbecue beans.
