Celebrity chef Kylie Kwong to shut down her iconic Sydney restaurant after 24 years and announces her next career move

Kylie Kwong has revealed she is closing down her iconic Sydney restaurant Lucky Kwong in June after being open for 24 years.
The celebrity chef, 54, shared the shock news to Instagram and revealed what her next career move would be.
'At the end of June, I'm hanging up my restauranteur hat in order to make space for that which has become closest to my heart,' she began.
'I'd like to step into the next phase of my practice. Through the lens of food and interconnectedness, I wish to place my energy into helping share other people's stories.'
Kwong's famed restaurant in the Sydney suburb of Everleigh is renowned for its diverse menu, featuring many delicacies such as crispy skin duck and saltbush cakes.

Kwong said she believes the love of food is a rich cultural tradition which unites people and she wanted to work at exploring this further.
'The important voices of our multicultural communities that make Australia the rich and diverse country it is. Food remains a simple yet universal connector,' she said.
'I want to go deeper, and look forward to uncovering other people's rich narratives.'

Kwong revealed the surprising news to social media on Monday morning
Kwong rose to fame in 2003 with her ABC TV series Kylie Kwong: Heart and Soul, a show that thrust her restaurant into the national spotlight and had customers queuing around the block.
She also made a guest appearance on MasterChef in 2012, appearing in the show's fourth season.
The culinary icon reappeared in 2016 on the popular show to judge a Chinese street food competition.

In June 2019, she spoke about the harrowing moment her wife Nell gave birth to their stillborn baby in an interview with The Sunday Morning Herald's Good Weekend.
The restaurateur said as a same-sex couple she and Nell were 'overjoyed' when Nell finally fell pregnant in 2011.
But Nell's pregnancy took a tragic turn when her waters broke earlier than expected and the obstetrician delivered the news their baby, named Lucky, would be stillborn within two days.
In 2015, on Nell's 40th birthday, Kwong asked her to marry her - to which Nell said yes.
