Sunrisers Hyderabad finally ended their two match losing run as they recorded a slender one run victory over Rajasthan Royals in Hyderabad on Thursday. SRH just needed two runs off the last ball and Bhuvneshwar Kumar removed Rovman Powell to hand his team a precious win against Sanju Samson’s side.

Batting first Sunrisers piled up a whopping 201 runs riding on the shoulders of Travis Head, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen. For the visitors, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag were the top scorers for Rajasthan Royals as they almost managed to secure a win which would have further eased their position at the top.

But Bhuvneshwar Kumar had some other plans. The fast bowler managed to trap Rovman Powell in front of the stumps and the umpire didn’t hesitate much before raising his finger. Powell reviewed the umpire’s call but the TV umpire stuck to the on-field umpire’s decision which brought in a huge cheer at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

But even if Rajasthan had managed to overturn the decision it wouldn’t have changed much as according to an ICC rule, “If following a Player Review request, an original decision of Out is changed to Not out, then the ball is still deemed to have become dead when the original decision was made (as per clause 20.1.1.3). The batting side, while benefiting from the reversal of the dismissal, shall not benefit from any runs that may subsequently have accrued from the delivery had the on-field umpire originally made a Not out decision.”

Former South African pacer Dale Steyn came up with a unique solution as he referred to baseball in order to eradicate such confusion. The former SRH pace bowling coach took to X as he posted, “We need to basically play in baseball style.

Consider the ball not dead until play has come to a stop. So essentially, run if you’re the batting team and continue to field if you’re the bowling team.

Then we address the LBW or caught off no ball etc after. Out if out, runs awarded if LBW or caught was not out.”

The win leaves SRH on 12 points while Rajasthan are still topping the table with 16 points in their kitty.
