DA not threatened by MK Party in KZN, says Pappas

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) says it doesn’t feel threatened by former President Jacob Zuma’s newly established uMkhonto weSizwe Party’s (MK) despite its rapidly growing support in the province.

The Social Research Foundation (SRF) recently said that the growing despair of disenchanted ANC voters could reduce the ANC’s share of power; it would open the door for the MK Party to seize power in the province.

‘THOSE WHO SUFFERED UNDER ZUMA WON’T VOTE MK’

“They can say whatever they want to desperate people looking for anything other than the ANC-led government, who might be disillusioned. I think they also appeal to a very particular electorate, which is largely Zulu-speaking voters in KZN,” says Chris Pappas, the mayor of Umgeni Municipality and the DA’s candidate for premier of KZN.

He said even though the DA acknowledges the possibility of the MK Party performing, those who suffered under Zuma’s leadership would not turn to the MK at this year’s elections, Eyewitness News reported.

KZN VOTES COULD BREAK ANC CHOKEHOLD ON SA – GWARUBE

DA Chief Whip, Siviwe Gwarube, says KZN votes for the DA can be the final blow that breaks the ANC’s chokehold on South Africa.

She said that if the party can get as many people as possible into voting stations on the 29 May voting day, the DA can change this government once and for all.

“The winds of change that swept through uMngeni in the 2021 Local government elections can and will sweep through the entire province of KwaZulu-Natal come 29 May this year,” said Gwarube at the DA KZN provincial manifesto launch.

She said that the uMngeni municipality was a clear example of what can be achieved when the right forces come together with a shared vision and purpose to dislodge the ANC from power.

“They said it was impossible to unseat the ANC, but we proved them wrong. Against all odds, against all skepticism, we achieved the impossible. When everyone said it couldn’t be done, we stood tall and made it happen,” said Gwarube.

DA KZN PROVINCIAL MANIFESTO LAUNCH: JOBS, CRIME AND CORRUPTION

“And now, we stand here today, living proof that change is not just a distant dream but a tangible reality,” she continued.

The DA in KwaZulu-Natal officially announced the party’s election manifesto in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, and it says that it has a plan for jobs, to fight crime and corruption, as well as the water and electricity crisis.

“We spent months travelling the length and breadth of our magnificent province talking to people from all walks of life about what they want to see from their Provincial government,” Pappas said.
