Cyberpunk 2077 is Sharing Hogwarts Legacy’s Fate

  • Cyberpunk 2077 and Hogwarts Legacy are slowing down updates and ending major content releases.
  • Cyberpunk 2077’s updates differed greatly from Hogwarts Legacy, making major improvements after a poor release state.
  • The lack of substantial updates may take getting used to, but both franchises seem to be moving on to future projects.

Cyberpunk 2077 is finding itself in a similar boat to Hogwarts Legacy, as sizable content updates likely won’t be in either game’s future. With the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 recently entering full development, CD Projekt Red’s first installment of the series seems to be settled in its content and features, which mirrors the state of Hogwarts Legacy.

Hogwarts Legacy just recently had its first anniversary, but it looks like new content for the game is already starting to die down. Although there is a planned update this summer for Hogwarts Legacy, this doesn’t appear to be an update with any major upgrades, and the future of Cyberpunk 2077 is now entering this phase, as well. Progress on these games slowing down is bittersweet, but this could at least be promising for the future of both franchises.

Cyberpunk 2077 and Hogwarts Legacy Updates Are Slowing Down

Close

As updates for Hogwarts Legacy become smaller, the game is settling into its complete version. Regular updates added to games are nice, but there is also something to be said about feeling like one is playing a finished and fully realized product. With speculation of a Hogwarts Legacy sequel already swirling around, the lack of updates in the first game’s future points to something bigger for the franchise. This also goes for Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk’s Development Greatly Differed From Hogwarts Legacy

Substantial updates for both games may be coming to an end, but the prospect of no longer getting major updates to Cyberpunk 2077 feels a little jarring compared to Hogwarts Legacy. The two games may share the feature of being open world experiences, but the development of both titles were vastly different. Cyberpunk 2077’s notorious launch back in 2020 was one of the biggest gaming controversies at the time, and regular updates that improved the game eventually became the norm.

However, the introduction of Cyberpunk 2077’s massive 2.0 update at the beginning of fall last year was an impressive overhaul of the game. That update paired with the Phantom Liberty DLC made Cyberpunk 2077 feel like the game it was meant to be, but this also was the beginning of the end for big updates. Although CD Projekt Red has confirmed that devs will make small updates here and there, the end of huge improvements almost feels like the end of an era.

The Futures Of Cyberpunk and Hogwarts Legacy

Close

No longer receiving sizable updates to Cyberpunk 2077 and Hogwarts Legacy may feel like an adjustment for some players, but this shows that the games are complete products, and that’s something to celebrate. As Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel begins development and Hogwarts Legacy’s rumored sequel hopefully comes to fruition, the lack of updates in the future signal that the studios behind both games are now moving on to future projects.

Hogwarts Legacy may not have had the same rocky road that Cyberpunk 2077 did, but the open world nature of both games makes them seem perfect to receive regular updates with new content. Regular updates have become such a common occurrence in modern gaming that it feels strange when those updates begin to cease, but this is ultimately good news. The end of major updates will definitely take some time to get used to, but there is at least plenty of incredible content and features to explore and experience while waiting for news on future sequels.

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is an RPG set in a future dystopian world. Players take up the role of V, who works as a mercenary in Night City in California. Gameplay involves branching dialogue, open-world exploration, character classes, and combat.
