University of Pennsylvania Associate Professor Amalia Dache says Cubans are voting with their feet with 500,000 Cubans fleeing since 2021 during the regime’s control.
Cubans ‘voting with their feet’ to protest regime
Cuba’s communist leadership is facing a fierce backlash that has not been seen since similar protests in July 2021.
These protests, which began over economic hardships and government repression, have now evolved into a broader call for political reform.
“The fact that we have exoduses to show that we don’t want this regime,” Ms Dache told Sky News Australia.
“But the interesting conflict for Cuban people is that Cuban people also don’t want to leave their home countries.
“Culturally, we want to be on the island, but economically, politically, socially – the Cuban people are being starved.”
