Critical electricity upgrades to affect these Cape Town areas

The City of Cape Town Electricity Generation and Distribution Department will conduct critical electricity upgrades in Newlands and surrounding areas for five days.

The teams will do the critical work over five days between 21 May and 4 June.

ELECTRICITY UPGRADES IN CAPE TOWN 

The City of Cape Town said the electricity upgrades to the Newlands Main Substation will affect residents in parts of Newlands and surrounding areas.

The metro municipality said that supply will be interrupted due to the complex nature of the infrastructure work. In addition, the restoration time may be delayed by a few hours.

“Our teams will work quickly to complete all upgrades within the communicated times,” the municipality said.

The municiaplity said if everything goes according to plan, the electricity upgrades will be carried out on the above-mentioned dates.

POWER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION IN DURBANVILLE

Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town has also warned of electricity supply interruption due to planned maintenance in parts of Durbanville.

The municipality said the maintenance will be carried out on Saturday, 18 May, from 8:00 – 20:00.

Alternatively, the teams will carry out the maintenance on Saturday, 25 May.

The municipality said due to the complex nature of the infrastructure work, supply will be interrupted and the time of restoration may be delayed by a few hours.

“Our teams will work as quickly as possible to complete all upgrades within the 8:00 to 20:00 communicated time. The maintenance work ensures a reliable electricity supply for residents in the areas,” the City of Cape Town said.
