‘Critical’ Australia does not show ‘weakness and ambivalence’ towards China: Paterson
Shadow Home Affairs and Cyber Security Minister James Paterson says it is “critical” Australia doesn’t show “weakness and ambivalence” towards China.
Mr Paterson said Australia has seen “totally inappropriate behaviour” from the country and that is a “pattern of behaviour”.
“They are testing Australia,” Mr Paterson told Sky News Australia.
“It’s critical that we show resolve and strength in return and not weakness and ambivalence.
“The Prime Minister says this has been raised at every level, but then we learned that neither he nor the foreign minister nor the defence minister have used their relationship with their counterparts to raise it – that sends a very bad signal, about our resolve, and our strength and our willingness to stand up for ourselves.”
