Former Labor minister Craig Emerson has rejected calls to break up major supermarkets.
Despite this, Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has backed Nationals Leader David Littleproud’s proposal for a break up of supermarket giants Coles and Woolworths.
“I’d say it’s a step in the right direction, I don’t think it’s going to solve the issues that are out there in the market at the moment,” Ritchies Supermarkets CEO Fred Harrison told Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood.

“I think what it’s going to do is keep retailers on their metal, I think it’s going to be a good thing for suppliers.
“But at the same time, often it’s the retailers that write the agreements and write the contracts so it’s going to see how it fits into those written contracts as well.”
