World’s Longest Hockey Game reaches the final buzzer

A packed arena marking the end of what may very well be the world’s longest hockey game That is in Chestermere. It happened earlier today. The goal there? To raise money to help sick kids in our province. 40 players hitting the ice for 262 continuous hours and along the way no doubt a lot of aches and pains and of course utter exhaustion for those players and and elation that they’ve reached this. Incredible goal. Joining us now is Global’s Craig Momney, who is live there and you were there as the game was wrapping up. I’m sure there’s so many emotions going on there all night at this incredible feat to help kids in our province. Craig. Absolutely. And what a game and what a win for the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation $1.4 million raised here over the last 11 days and as promised, organizer and player Alex Hallett. Alex, an epic game, 262 hours to be exact. Ask how are the legs. I think I’m done. I’m done. I need. I need to go home and have a bath and relax for a few few hours. Absolutely. Now you’ve been since start since 2012. It’s been it’s a grueling physical and mentally, how do you dig deep and keep keep composed throughout these these last days? The reason we do this is obviously for the children in 2012 where we had two or three ambassador kids that were involved to 2024 and I think there’s probably nearly 40 or 50 kids that came by to visit us on a on a daily basis that are battling cancer or beat cancer. You sit there and you complain about your feet being swollen and your hips are sore and your knees are sore. To think little Colton that was here but you know 2000 days of his life in battling cancer. So you get through it. Now again an official Guinness record set for this incredible hockey marathon and we know this money is going towards. A great cause $1.4 million. What does it mean to you to see that kind of support? You know, it’s amazing. It’s a cancer hasn’t gone anywhere. As the world population keeps growing, unfortunately, so does the disease. And you know, we talked to any of these players. We’ll probably come back and do it again and again. So how much the body can take. But we’ll try to keep the event going and and if you know, raise awareness for the Children’s Hospital and and try to save the life of the child. Absolutely, Alex. Thank you very much, Alex. I mean, just imagine how grueling it is. But like Alex said, you know, it’s about the kids and what they’ve gone through. And you can see it touches their heart so deeply to be part of that. So congratulations to them for doing it and for everybody who contributed. Yeah.
