Corales Puntacana Championship odds, predictions, best prop picks for PGA off-field event

While many of the big-name PGA Tour players are teeing it up in the 70-player field in South Carolina at the RBC Heritage Classic, there is more golf being played.

The Tour’s off-field event this week, the Corales Puntacana Championship being held in the Dominican Republic, gives those still climbing the PGA Tour ladder a chance to make their mark and earn big bucks and FedEx Cup points.

There is only one player in the top 50 in the world rankings in the 132-player field this week–Nicolai Hojgaard at No. 34 — so the competition is wide open.

How open? Well, when the favorite is at +1400 (Alex Noren and Hojgaard) that number shows there is no clear-cut favorite.

Last year’s winner, Matt Wallace, has made five of 10 cuts on the PGA Tour in 2024 and is slowly working his way up the FedEx Cup leaderboard.

And it’s all because of a trip he made to the Dominican Republic last year and a week of golf in paradise that turned into a huge payday.

We’re going to look at Billy Horschel who is to get back in the winner’s circle.

It’s been awhile. Horschel’s last win was the 2022 Memorial Tournament.

Since that time, it’s been a struggle. After his victory, he finished the year with zero top 10s in seven events with three missed cuts. In 2023, he made just 13 of 23 cuts with three top 10s. Not exactly the form he’s used to since he turned pro in 2009.

Starting off 2024 hasn’t seen much improvement as he has made five of nine cuts with just two top 10s.

But when he makes a cut, he plays well as in his last five events he has three top 10s.

There were glimpses of a comeback when he was T-12 at the Valspar followed by a T-7 at the Texas Children’s Houston Open.

But then came a missed cut in his most recent outing at the Valero Texas Open when a first-round 76 cost him any chance of playing the weekend.

We’re hoping the lack of star power this week lets him focus on being the golfer the field is chasing rather than being the golfer trying to chase down the rest of the field.

A guy like Ben Martin should come to mind when bettors are looking for a longshot possibility.

Martin, at , has one win on the PGA Tour.

But, it’s been awhile.

He won the 2014 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas so he’s still looking to find that winning formula and win for the second time.

In 2024, he’s made six of nine cuts.

The good news is his last outing, the Valero Texas Open earlier this month, saw him rally to finish T-7.

That may be an outlier or it may be that he found something in his game and is ready to compete for that second title.

Picking a winner in these off-field events is definitely a challenge. So, why not give ourselves a little hedge and pick a player to finish in the top five and a player to finish in the top 20.

We’re going to look at DraftKings for the prop bets.

For the top-five pick, we’re going to look at Daniel Berger at +850.

Berger is still trying to come back from a back injury that sidelined him for many months. Since his return, he’s made just three of seven cuts in 2024 with a best finish of T-28. We’re betting that improves this week as he’s one of the bigger names teeing it up here.

For a top-20 pick, and a real longshot, we’re going to look at Scott Piercy at +450.

He’s only got two starts in 2024 with one made cut (a T-42 in Puerto Rico) but if he’s going to make a comeback to the form that helped him to four PGA Tour wins, it’s going to have to start soon.

This might just be the week.
