PETALING JAYA: A policeman has been arrested for allegedly raping a foreign college student in Ampang, Selangor, on Tuesday.

Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said two uniformed policemen had detained the victim and a male Malaysian student at Bukit Ampang at 10.09pm over a traffic offence.

They brought the duo to separate locations, with one of them then raping the girl.

Hussein said the other policeman brought the male victim to a bank and demanded that he withdraw money so he can pay for the traffic offence.

“The two suspects were arrested yesterday and have been remanded for seven days,” he said in a statement.

One of the policemen is being probed for rape under Section 376 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to 20 years in jail and whipping.

The other policeman is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery and armed robbery. If convicted, he could face a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a fine or whipping.

“Investigations are ongoing and we urge members of the public with information on the incident to contact their nearest police station or Ampang Jaya police headquarters at 03-42897222 to assist in investigations.

“The police will not compromise with any officers or personnel who are involved in criminal cases or any wrongdoing. The investigations will be conducted transparently,” said Hussein.
