Concerns over children playing on ‘extraordinarily toxic' synthetic sports fields
A Sky News Australia investigation has lifted the lid on what is being called a “toxic cocktail” of chemicals which make up many of Australia’s synthetic sports fields.
It comes as the European Union have begun ripping up and replacing tens of thousands of pitches, but governments and councils in Australia appear to be ignoring the warnings.

Sky News Investigations Reporter Jonathan Lea spoke to an Australian scientist about his damning study which looked at just how potentially dangerous these chemicals are.
“Many families simply don’t know what their children, or perhaps what they are playing on,” Mr Lea told Sky News Australia host Chris Kenny.
“We looked at synthetic grass, which is in itself a chemical compound, but also the crumbed rubber.
“What we found is it is full of chemicals, extraordinarily toxic chemicals.”
