Communications Minister Michelle Rowland has labelled social media companies which proliferate “mis and disinformation” as a “threat to democratic institutions”.

The Coalition has called for age limits to be mandated on sociall media sites so that children cannot access them.
The plan would be done through the use of age verification technology.
“There is no silver bullet, and it’s one in which we have been actively engaged with eSafety in looking at,” Ms Rowland told Sky News Australia.
“The platforms actually do, in their terms of service, certain age limits; the issue here is getting them to enforce it.
“I welcome bipartisanship on the issue of addressing the mis and disinformation that is proliferating on platforms.
“This is a threat to democratic institutions.”
