PETALING JAYA: The delayed combat training diving pool at Iskandar Camp, Mersing, Johor, will be completed by June, says works minister Alexander Nanta Linggi.

Bernama reported him as saying that he had been informed by ministry officials that the project was 98% complete.

“We at the ministry welcome the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim’s instructions to visit and assess the situation,” he told reporters after the joint engagement session of the minister of works with the Malaysian Highway Authority near Kuala Lumpur.

Nanta said he would meet Sultan Ibrahim soon to explain the delay in the project, adding that a detailed investigation was still underway.

On Monday, Sultan Ibrahim ordered those responsible for building the pool to provide an explanation for the delay.

The king, who is also the colonel commandant of the Special Forces Group, said the pool – which was supposed to have been completed by December 2022 – was still under construction, but the project signboards had been removed.

Meanwhile, Nanta said the ministry welcomed the proposal for the construction of a new highway connecting Tanjung Malim to Lumut to help alleviate road congestion.

He said the Cabinet had discussed the need for the highway.
