Councillor Imran Safdar and Councillor Jo Lawson
Two Labour Party councillors in Kirklees have announced they will be leaving the party.
Councillor Jo Lawson and Councillor Imran Safdar have said they have now left the Labour Party but will continue to represent their ward as independent councillors. They are both councillors in the Crosland Moor and Netherton ward.
In a statement issued on Facebook, Cllr Lawson said it was “not an easy decision to make”.
The statement read: “Imran and I have today resigned from the Labour Party. We will continue to represent Crosland Moor & Netherton ward as independents. It was not an easy decision to make.
“We want to assure you all that we will continue with all the work we have been doing to try and improve the ward. We will still be your point of contact should you have issues you need to raise with us.”
Councillor Safdar responded to the post, with a sad face, and a picture of the Palestinian flag.
